I was on babble, rabble's forum recently, and I tried to paint Ruby Dhalla as a darling of the left. She's really not. Despite Michael Ignatieff's position on torture and rendition, despite his views on Empire, she was one of the FIRST people to throw her support behind him, back in 2006.
She could have supported Stephane Dion and Bob Rae, both credible alternatives and clearly of the left. But despite the fact that Ignatieff's views were VERY well known- on blogs and messagings- she threw her weight behind Michael Ignatieff in the staunchest way, clearly supporting a definite move to the right direction in the Party. It was, in fact, a very clearly articulated choice.
Young Canadians care about health care, about environmental preservation, and about access to education – these are all areas in which Micheal [Ignatieff] has shown tremendous leadership,” said Dhalla, who at 31 is the second youngest member in the House of Commons.
“Michael has that sense of vision which can elevate the party and give Canadians a vision for the future,” she said in an interview with The Asian Pacific Post. “He is a man with tremendous passion, international experience, and intellectual depth.”
I don't think that you can get a more ringing endorsement than that.
