This is an interesting development.

The Russia-Afghanistan Forum (RAF) will be held in the «President Hotel», Moscow on May 14. The Forum is dedicated to the 90-th annivesrary of establishment of the diplomatic relations between Russia and Afghanistan and designed to become an important step towards realization of Russia’s new Afghan policy.

The Russia-Afghanistan Forum organized by the Institute for demography, migration and regional development brings to Moscow a high-level Afghan delegation. The delegation includes a number of ministers of the Afghanistan President’s Executive Office headed by the Vice-President Karim Halili, 25 parliament members, public figures, experts and media managers, as well as around 60 businessmen eager to broaden their cooperation with Russia. An active role in the Forum will be played by the Afghan diaspora in Russia, which according to some estimates accounts to more than 100 thousand people.
On the Russia’s part the Forum will be attended by high representatives of the Federal Government, State Duma, Federation Council, regional governments, management of major corporations, civic organizations and think tanks, as well as independent experts.

In the course of the Russia-Afghanistan Forum the delegations of the two countries will discuss strategic directions and particular projects of Russia-Afghanistan cooperation. A wide scope of issues will be touched upon at the Forum’s workshops on May 14:

1. Economic cooperation of Russia and Afghanistan.
2. Cultural-humanitarian cooperation of Russia and Afghanistan.
3. Providing the cooperative security of Russia and Afghanistan.

Following the results of the Forum the participants will adopt the final Declaration.

On May 13 the members of the Afghan delegation will take part in the session of a working group of the State Antinarcotics Committee of Russian Federation dedicated to combatting the drug threat.

On May 15 another major event is planned – a business session «The Projects of Russia-Afghanistan Interregional Economic Cooperation».

The Afghanistan delegation will stay in Russia from May 11 to May 18.
