Taking it from "here" means to understand the link between the Pashtu of Afghanistan and those of Pakistan, a historical link that defies that imperial-aggression-exploration line that divides the "family". Have another 'invader' divide the U.S., Britain or Canada up in a way they figured made sense to them and you'd get some idea of how the Pashtu feel. Of course they ignore the "false border" imposed by others. We would do the same!
By extension, we would also defend our lands against an invasion. And you can bet, as was the argument used by Obama when asking for more help from ‘our allies’, our friends would be there to help us throw the invader out. In the Pashtu’s case, it’s their family.
So what's the problem with just picking up our soldiers and going home? Other than massive reparations due the Afghani Peoples, which we wouldn't think about providing for one excuse or another, we must appropriately put our tails between our legs and leave them in peace. If they want our help, we must ignore “contrived leadership” and await a legitimate government - if the various ethnic groups so wish to provide themselves one.
