London, Jul 19 (PTI) Advocating "political dialogue" with senior Taliban elements in Afghanistan, former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has said that talks rather than military might was key to resolve the conflict in the country, where US-led forces are fighting militants since 2001.

Political progress, rather than military might would achieve a solution in Afghanistan, Musharraf said contending that "military is never the ultimate solution".

"We are following a short-term military strategy only...

The Taliban have done wicked things. But then we have to come to a solution," Musharraf told Sky News.

He said while military offensive can buy time, it is the "political instrument" which has to be used ultimately.

"I personally think that you need to establish a political dialogue... with senior elements within the Taliban," he said.
